Top Ten Guilty Pleasures of Henrietta The Dragon Slayer

1. Holding a wooden mug in her hands in front of a roaring fire at an inn.
2. A well made knife that she either bought or made herself.
3. Her special rainproof leather coat and leather boots that she’s worn all along the Traveler’s Road.
4. Running the hills around her village in the Skye Mountains.
5. Doing acrobatics atop a horse with her dragon-slaying partner, Sytiphell.
6. Sharing her dragon tales with Jaxter.
7. Singing (Shh! don’t tell anyone.) Nobody knows that she loves to sing. She never sings solo around others.
8. Jenever (It’s a drink Henrietta discovers in the Oro Islands.)
9. Any homemade meal cooked by Jaxter. The man can cook!
10. Hanging out with her friends around the camp fire.

Review: Grab a Copy of Henrietta The Dragon Slayer

Thank you Crystal so much for your rockin’ review of Henrietta The Dragon Slayer.

I loved this book.  From the first page of Henrietta The Dragon Slayer I was drawn into Henrietta’s world.  I loved Henrietta, she’s a strong girl, yet she’s flawed too, so that makes her more normal and easier to like, but she’s still really kick-butt with a sword and she can prove it when the male knights think the stories they have heard about her are untrue.

But the book is not just about Henrietta, there are also her sidekicks, a jester, a witch and knight who make the story interesting as well as her fear of the water.  There are serious moments and humorous moments (there has to be, there is a jester).  Ms. Barany writes beautifully and skillfully and translates her words into a magnificient fantasy story that I loved and can imagine teens and other adults loving as well.  There is adventure, sword fighting, good food, ale, dragons, jesters, magic, tall tales and true tales galore in this book and all of these elements together make it one story I will not soon forget and Henrietta one character who makes a great book.  So go grab a copy and prepare to be taken away for an afternoon or evening to Henrieta’s world where dragon’s and magic are as real as the insecurities of a teenage girl.

See the post for yourself here! And comment to win a free book.

Kick Ass Heroines in Fantasy and Science Fiction

This post is excerpted from my post at Breaking In Before Breaking Down.

David, thank you for having me on your blog to write about kick ass heroines in fantasy and science fiction.

Major confession up front: I love kick ass heroines in science fiction and fantasy and love to write and read about them, too.

I’ve recently published my first novel, a YA fantasy, Henrietta The Dragon Slayer. Yeah, she’s a bad ass!

Henrietta is a bit of a bad girl as the story opens. She’s gettin’ out of Dodge, leaving her hero days behind, not wanting to be her kingdom’s hero anymore. She’s leaving behind her responsibilities for a life in the sunny beaches down south. Her heart is hurting and she doesn’t even know it. Yet.

Some Favorite Books on My Shelf

Thanks Crystal for having me on My Reading Room.

I love to read, and was first an avid reader before dedicating myself to being a writer. And I still read A LOT, morning, noon and night. ;-)

Most of my books on my shelf are novels: romance, science fiction, fairy tales and folk tales, science fiction romance, paranormal romance and the occasional mystery and suspense novel. I also have lots of nonfiction books on writing, business, and marketing; and lots of book in French, about Paris history, and some novels and kids books in French.

For the rest of the post and to enter the Giveaway for a copy of Henrietta The Dragon Slayer or the the necklace featured on the cover ending August 31 go to My Reading Room.

Are We The Goddess Pretending?

“It is important to realize we are not women channeling the goddess or pretending to be here — we are the goddess pretending for a single lifetime to be a mortal woman.”

From Carol Schaefer’s Grandmothers Counsel The World, by way of From Girl to Goddess: The Heroines’ Journey through Myth and Legend by Valerie Estelle Frankel. (Who kindly traded her book for my novel, Henrietta The Dragon Slayer, at a book signing at the San Maeto County Fair this summer. Thanks Valerie!)
