AAR: A GREAT YA FANTASY/PARANORMAL READ! HENRIETTA,THE DRAGON SLAYER BY BETH BARANY….

HENRIETTA, THE DRAGON SLAYER by Beth Barany is a YA paranormal/fantasy. It is written with depth and details. The first in the “Five Kingdoms” series. The characters are interesting, compelling and will capture your heart. Henrietta is a young, fiery, female dragon slayer, who we never see slay a dragon, only hear of her exploits through others, but she does not want to slay dragons any longer. Franc, a knight who is very pushy, is sent by the king of Plumaria to enlist Henrietta’s help to slay the dragon, Mimoto. When Henrietta is approached for the task she first refuses until she learns that her mentor, Master Chen, is sick and dying and only one of the Dragonitas from Mimoto can save him, she then agrees. Henrietta, the dragon slayer, Franc, the knight, Jaxter, the jester, and Paulette, the apprentice witch set out on an adventure that includes hardships, friendship, and slaying a dragon along their way to Plumaria. This is a good, fun read for young adults and older adults also who enjoy magic, fantasy, mysticism, dragons, and little to no violence. This is a fun summer read. This book was received for the purpose of review from the author and details can be found at Firewolf Books and My Book Addiction and More.

Anastasia V. Pergakis: “A must have for your reading collection!”

I’ll be completely honest and say I was a bit leary about it at first, as I’m not a fan of books about slaying dragons! I love dragons too much. BUT, never fear, no dragons were harmed in the making of this book! I have to say I really enjoyed reading this story. Henrietta is exactly the type of heroine I love to read about. She can handle her self in a fight but that doesn’t mean she necessarily goes looking for trouble either.

Henrietta is a girl that can’t stand the thought of killing one more dragon – or anything for that matter. She simply wants to live her life. But, when her mentor falls ill she is forced into a quest to get a healing stone to save him. But that requires one more kill. Can she do it!? Well, you’ll have to read the story to find out!

It was a great read – I read it in one sitting. The dialogue and really the whole tone of the book made for excitment from the first line. Beth Barany did a fabulous job grabbing me right from the beginning with this story. I highly recommend this story to anyone who is a fan of fantasy and kick-butt heroines. It’s really a great book to have in your collection.

Read_A_Book on Barnes & Noble.com: “Great read for all ages”

This is a really cute coming-of-age novel. Barany has created a wonderful cast of characters, including Henrietta, the haughty, kick-butt heroine, Franc, the heroic, chauvinistic knight, Jaxster, the storytelling jester, and Paulette, the quiet, mischievous witch. Through fate, these four characters are cast together on a quest to save Henrietta’s mentor by bringing back the healing stone after killing a dragon. Perhaps my favorite portion of this novel, on the whole, is Barany’s portrayal of Henrietta. While confused and running from her own personal dragons (no pun intended), Henrietta is a tough female lead, standing up for what she believes in and, behind her hard exterior, possess a caring heart. She is unlike any other heroine I’ve read about, and watching her work out her own issues, while dealing with choices of right and wrong, was extremely enjoyable.

This often humorous tale brings together the unlikeliest of foes, forcing them to learn to either work together or face failure. Barany has created a captivating tale for all ages, complete with sword fights, witchcraft, and friendship. Three and a half stars.

Jeri: A girl heroine fighting the good fight”

Henrietta the Dragon Slayer is a magical fantasy novel with complex, well-rounded characters having adventures while dealing with their real life personality issues. Even though Henrietta has a great reputation as a great Dragon Slayer, she discovers a pacifist streak that makes her previous lifestyle difficult to continue. The witty dialogue and good story line makes this book hard to put down. It’s really fun to read. It’s also very satisfying to read about a girl heroine fighting the good fight.

Henrietta the dragon slayer is a charming book set in a fantasy world. Henrietta has slayed many dragons in her short life and has resigned not to take any more jobs, but when a pushy knight named Franc implores her to follow him to his lands and slay Mimoto the dragon she hesitates, until she learns her mentor, Master Chen is sick and only the Dragonitas from Mimoto can save him does she embark on her quest. More here.

Robert Medak “RJ”: A tale of fantasy and adventure

This is a tale with a strong heroine by the name Henrietta. It is also a tale of the magic of dragons and witches. Henrietta, along with her traveling companions, Franc the knight, Jaxter the court jester, and Paulette the apprentice witch, Take on an arduous journey to Plumaria. Franc is on a mission from the king to find Henrietta the Dragon Slayer and bring her back to Plumaria. The foursome encounters many hardships along the way, least of which is Henrietta’s fear of water. She must steel herself for a long sea voyage from the mainland to Plumaria to find the reason for her summons to the island, and what the king wishes of her since Franc is not forthcoming with much information. Henrietta is on a mission of her own, to restore the health of her ailing mentor Master Chen, although she left after a heated exchange with him to join the King’s Army.

Master Chen is much like a farther to her as well as her mentor in the fighting arts with the use of swords. Will she be in time to same Master Chen if she travels to Plumaria to do the King’s bidding? Beth, best known for strong heroines in her stories, this story is no exception. It is a tale of righteousness and overcoming adversity including magic. Who or what are the guardians she encounters along the way, and why do they hide in shadows as they speak to her. She is reluctant to listen to them as she in not ready to be a believer yet. If you enjoy stories of mysticism, magic, and dragons this is a story for you. If you enjoy a good tale this story is for you, and if you enjoy a good read Henrietta the Dragon Slayer is the book for you. Beth, best known for strong heroines in her stories, this story is no exception. …
