Peek into the Creative Cauldron: How I Get My Writing Done

N-150x150 image "No – say it and mean it" by Beth Barany, as part of the Blogging from A to Z April 2015 ChallengeHello my friends! Today I share a peek into my creativity cauldron, how I get my writing done.

I popped over to the Guelph Write Now blog and shared about the word No and how it relates to getting my writing done, about Saying No and Protecting Your Creative Self.

You can read the rest of the article here. I hope you enjoy it!

I wanted to share a little more of my process with you because I realized I don’t often share my creative process here on my author blog. In fact, I don’t think I have ever. The reason is this is the place I want to share with you the finished and polished project. (But if you want to see in progress work, please do let me know in the comments below!)

What do you guys think? I believe no matter who you are, you need to have boundaries up so you can get done what you want to get done. You need to shut the door, tell others to not bother you, set the timer, put in a headset, leave the house, etc.

Now I’m not talking about times when you need to be available to others. That happens. If the phone rings, and I’m writing, but I see it’s my mother/father/husband/sibling or other close family member calling, I’ll drop everything and answer the phone. (Luckily, they don’t call that often. And they know that i might be writing. I’ve trained them well!)

Some of the things I do to make sure I get my writing done, so you guys get good stuff to read!

I block off time on my calendar, and I often pair my writing time with a walk first.

I sit so much as an author, and as an online entrepreneur and coach, I need to move more.

To support me in that I finally downloaded the app, Steps, from the App Store. Since I downloaded it a week ago, my progress is up and down.

I use walking a way to create a boundary between my activities. What do you do to create a boundary between one activity and another?

toy blocks word noAnd, how do you say NO to the things you don’t want so that you can say YES to the things you do want?

I find it helps having a really clear idea of what I want to do in the short term — like want to work on the next planning step in my next paranormal romance (like today!). And it helps remembering the Big Picture: that I want to publish three more paranormal romance novellas this year! 🙂

Oh! If you want to be notified when my next books are published, and have a chance to get fun extras and first-looks, be sure to sign up for my newsletter here.
